Pensions Panel

Are you in control of your pension?

We recently canvassed members and overwhelmingly pensions were a topic of interest with questions asked about: pensions for small businesses; Inheritance Tax; annuities and their alternatives; transfer of a final salary pension; choosing an advisor; fees and a lot more questions.

Did you know that pensions are the area most often tinkered with by any Chancellor of the Exchequer?  Gordon Brown removed £5bn a year from pensions savings in the late 90s – most people did not notice (some would say that this single act killed the Defined Benefit Pension). They have tweaked the amounts that can be contributed to a pension and introduced the life time allowance.  George Osborne introduced Pension Freedoms.  The Normal Retirement age has been changed several times.

We have a great panel of experts with a wide range of knowledge and experience of pensions including some wider aspects of planning for retirement.

This will be an excellent opportunity to ask questions of: The Pension Advisory Service, an Independent Financial Advisor who specialises in pensions, an actuary and expert on pensions for owners of small companies and the founder of a group, formed to guide people both before and after retirement.

Richard Owen
Managing Director, Booming Lives

Richard Owen is the founder and Managing Director of Booming Lives (previously the OpenRetirementClub). As a pension fund trustee in the London offices of two American banks – Citigroup and State Street – Richard became concerned that many people were approaching retirement without sufficient knowledge of the retirement income options available to them. Good financial planning and understanding the choices available are essential. Richard believes that individuals should act more like trustees in respect of their own retirement savings and established Booming Lives to help people do this.
