“Climate change: Is flooding a risk to your livelihood?”

Climate Change is a global phenomenon that is impacting everyone and everything. The subject of ‘flooding’ seems to have escaped scrutiny when assessing the success or otherwise whether it be with regard to business sustainability or indeed personal well-being.

Everyone who participates in this session will leave with the ability to safeguard their livelihoods.

This session will:

• identify reliable sources of information that will enhance the user’s ability to safeguard their livelihoods

• assist in understanding the issue, with examples

• then move onto areas that we can influence

• then understand how we can improve our decision-making processes.

About John Mardle

My career has been global, at corporate level and also in the capacity as a consultant. As a Project Finance Director for Corporates like ABB, Alstom on projects as diverse as power station renovations, train/turbine manufacturing and delivery of Supply Chain Financing for TNT, Nordea Bank, ITV, as a consultant.

Having semi-retired I decided to invest my time in understanding the ‘water’ aspect of Climate Change. This led me to join the Environment Agency, initially as a consultant, and then as an advisor to Thames Water. I am now employed by a Local Authority to engage with the business and residential community in safeguarding their livelihoods from flooding.

Interests include management of ancient wet woodlands, learning walks for the U3A along the River Lea, member of the Joint Local Access Forum that safeguards green corridors for fauna and wildlife.
