9th October “The role of ESG and if it’s here to stay“

ESG/sustainability is role agnostic. We all have to understand what our companies need to do, whether sitting on a board, advising a board or answerable to a board.

Our speaker, Alan Haywood, SVP ESG Transformation, BP p.l.c will discuss:
• In recent years the term ESG seems to have been used widely and with increasing variation.
• Regulation across the globe is requiring disclosure – be it the impact of climate change on your company, or the impact of your company on people & our planet
• Using BP for context, Alan will explore what ESG means, what purpose it serves and how it is seen by external observers.
• He will argue that it’s not a passing fad, but an enduring way of working, which balances purpose and profit.
• There is a great appetite to understand what a company does, and how it operates – boards need to be involved and deliberate in overseeing the prosecution of strategy.

There are four things that most of us need to understand: 1) what type of ESG/Climate change reporting is required now, 2) the difference between scope 1/2/3 reporting 3) how a company can provide rigorous assurance to prevent greenwashing, and 4) how do we get the relevant expertise.
